Job Description

Seeking a Supportive Roommate…‘We’ are seeking a ‘supportive roommate’ (or couple) to support an active and social young adult in a unique living arrangement on Quadra Island, BC. This young adult is outgoing, kind, has a great sense of humour and likes to be involved in the local community. He enjoys success in multiple Special Olympics sports and enjoys a variety of recreational sports, loves being outdoors and is a proud homeowner.

The ideal roommate/s is someone who will be supportive, thoughtful, patient, respectful and who embraces the value of an inclusive community for persons with disability. A ‘good match’ will be dependable and will demonstrate good organizational skills to help this individual enjoy life by: assisting with timing, scheduling and following daily routines in establishing a ‘work life’; working towards greater independence with meal planning and grocery shopping, cooking and household upkeep; have an interest in outdoor activities and a healthy lifestyle to encourage the individual to engage in, access, and participate in recreational activities and sport; provide local transportation; and help to facilitate social interactions whether it is through going for coffee, seeing a movie, or watching the WWE Friday Night SmackDown wrestling on TV!

This is a unique opportunity to become a ‘reverse’ home share provider, in a paid live-in situation, to provide support and guidance in the life of this young adult in a new home specifically designed for co-housing, that offers a warm and modern shared space with comfort and privacy for individuals, and that is within a few minutes walking distance to the ferry to Campbell River, and to the amenities in Quathiaski Cove such as the grocery store, library, restaurants and café.

Pay for this position will be commensurate with Home Share Provider contracts with Service Providers on Vancouver Island, as per Community Living BC (CLBC).

Requirements:
• Driver’s Licence
• Clean Driver’s Abstract
• First Aid
• Clean Criminal Record Check
• Proof of flu and COVID-19 Vaccination (as required by CLBC)
• Non-smoking
• References

Must speak, read and write English clearly and fluently.
