We are looking for a Live-In Caregiver (or couple), non-smoker(s).
Location: Lower Lonsdale, newer half-duplex in North Vancouver (2600SF).
Caregiver: to be stable, reliable, fun, positive, active, patient personality type, speaks English and has other part-time work during the day. The Individual must be flexible enough to provide support to our son with the daily Mon-Friday morning routine and making breakfast (7-8 am), cooking dinner (5:30-7 pm), and overseeing his evening routine before bed (8:30-9:30 pm). The individual is expected to take care of the house (cleaning, garbage/recycling brought to street weekly/ minimal weeding over summer). We are looking for a caregiver that is available on some weekends and would allow our son to accompany the individual in doing weekend chores, shopping and/or participate actively with them.
Start date: late December or January 2022
Caregiver: a vehicle would be an asset, but not a necessity
Experience: prefer experience working with persons with disabilities
Our 24-year-old son is semi-independent and overall, a very healthy, happy young man with a great sense of humour and imagination. He has fine motor difficulties, doesn’t read or write, but can use his iPhone/X-box/computer. He likes living with Roommates and being part of their family for any activities (walking, biking, golfing, skiing, snow-shoeing, holiday celebrations, birthdays). He currently is occupied Monday to Friday for most of the day with work and a day program he attends.
From 2017-2019 he had a couple as his Roommates (caregivers); however, due to health issues developed by one of the caregivers, they had to leave. As parents, we moved into his house. Our own permanent residence is on Vancouver Island, so the goal is to slowly transition to moving back to Vancouver Island, provided the right live-in caregiver (or couple) is found. Our son loves living and working in North Vancouver.
Services would include grocery shopping, meals (3 meals that include a lunch he takes on days he is at his day program), laundry, bed making, time management (reminders), bedtime routine (he likes a bedtime story), and some personal grooming (help with showers, face cream, ensure teeth brushed). There may be a transportation component, but mostly he can get everywhere by bus.
Our son loves hanging around the house and can be at home alone for several hours a day. He can help with table setting, dinner prep, and supervised microwave use. During the week he is up around 7:15 am and leaves the house around 8 am; in the evening he is in bed between 9-9:30 pm.
Wage: to be discussed. Approx. $1800/month after rent and utilities. Dependent on weekend availability. Weekends could be spent with his parents or his siblings.
Accommodation: Private 1-bedroom + 4-piece bathroom; common areas include the kitchen, family room, and dining room where an office could be set up. Plenty of street parking is available. Safe neighbourhood.
