Respite Worker

Job Description

We are seeking a compassionate and reliable respite worker to provide care and support for young adult individuals with disabilities or special needs. You will be responsible for ensuring the safety, well-being and comfort of our clients in their homes and in the community. The ideal candidate will have experience working with individuals with disabilities. As a respite worker, you will be responsible for providing caregiving duties. This may include:
• Assisting with personal care such as bathing and dressing.
• Assisting with mobility and transfers when needed.
• Preparing meals and feeding.
• Administering prescribed medication and monitoring vital signs.
• Providing emotional support, companionship, assistance, comfort.
• Assessing physical, mental, and emotional conditions of clients.
• Facilitating appropriate professional intervention if required.
• Plan, implement, supervise, and engage clients in suitable activities according to their interests and abilities.
• Maintain accurate records of client progress, incidents and expenses.
• Communicate effectively with clients’ families, professionals and other respite members.
• Follow policies and procedures regarding health and safety, confidentiality and documentation.
• Report any changes or concerns regarding clients’ health or behavior to primary caregivers.

In addition to these duties, you will also be responsible for maintaining a safe and comfortable environment for the individual in your care. This may include light housekeeping tasks such as laundry, cleaning, etc.

Requirements:
• Compassion, patience, and empathy for clients and their families.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team, follow instructions.
• Good communication, interpersonal and organizational skills.
• Ability to provide personal care and assistance with daily activities.

Qualifications:
• First aid and CPR certification
• A background check
• Training in behavior management or crisis intervention
• Valid driver’s license (vehicle will be provided)
• A high school diploma or equivalent
