Under the direction of a Microboard (Trust Society), an individual, couple or family is being sought for a contracted home sharing support position. The applicant is to provide live-in support for a young man with diversabilities. The applicant will contribute to his quality of life and well-being in a unique home/life sharing opportunity in the individual’s own home. The applicant will occupy the primary bedroom of a spacious, centrally located three-bedroom, three-bathroom townhome. Sharing his home as your own is a fulfilling and rewarding experience where you are contributing to his quality of life while welcoming him into your circle of friends and family. Home share caregivers are responsible for the safety, health and the well-being of the individual, as well as supporting opportunities for personal and social development within the household, with the individual’s family, and in the broader community. The person being supported enjoys watching TV (many sporting events, home improvement shows and movies), playing games, playing pool and is generally social and likes to laugh.
The applicant must have both the ability and time to support the individual with their day to day needs and activities. There must be a willingness to learn and grow and provide the person with mentorship for life skills and to promote independence and choice. The successful applicant will need to provide nutritious meals with minimal set up. Additionally, the young man will require consistent routine, queuing and guidance. He is ambulatory and requires minimal assistance with his personal care. The individual is supported outside of the home during the week by paid Community Support Workers as well as through funded programs sponsored by Community Living BC in addition to ongoing support from his family.
The Microboard is looking for a caring, energetic family or individual to provide this support in a “license to occupy” agreement that allows the applicant to live in his home as if their own. The applicant will thus be responsible for the daily operation of the centrally located, mostly furnished, spacious three-bedroom, three-bathroom townhome.
Non-taxable remuneration is $2,500/month. Respite, to allow “time off” for the applicant is also available each month. The applicant will be responsible for various costs as if the home was theirs (utilities, strata fees, maintenance, etc.) along with a minimal monthly residence fee.
