Hello from East Van! We are looking for a nanny/support person for our 3 year old son who is on the autism spectrum. We’re looking for both at his daycare and at home. This position is set to start as early as May 9, 2022 and will last till the end of August with the potential of renewal depending if we can find him an inclusive spot or not for the next school year.
He is a highly functioning, loving, kind and funny little guy who struggles a bit with emotional regulation. He loves the outdoors, anything with wheels and story time. He loves to play make-believe and spends much of his day giggling and asking questions. He appreciates a firm, kind and empathetic approach and routine.
He goes to a licensed family daycare 3 days a week (Monday, Tuesday & Friday) from 7:30am to 3:30pm. We are looking for a support person who will be able to join him as his individual support aide with toileting, social interactions, and basic routines. You would be working alongside the experienced, kind and loving daycare owner/teacher, and we also hope you can be a bridge to help our child play and engage with the other children throughout the day. The daycare is located close to East 49th & Quebec street. Currently, this position is being funded through the BC Centre for Ability.
We would also need you for the morning of Wednesday and Thursday to join him at our home to run some basic behaviour interventions (plan will be developed by an experienced behaviour consultant) between 8:00am and 12:00pm. We are located close to East 22nd & Slocan street.
You are a kind, patient and caring individual who loves children and has a background with this age of child. You have a sense of humour, you’re flexible and have a positive outlook on life. You meet children where they’re at and see them as fountains of potential. You are firm, but fair. You appreciate routine and are proactive. You are a team player and a collaborator who is reliable and committed to attending/participating in monthly team meetings.
We prefer a minimum of 3 years teaching, BI or equivalent experience. Training will be provided by BCBA. A clear criminal record check is required. The daycare (and therefore us) require a fully vaccinated aide.
Wage is $20-$25/hour based on experience
